Monday Assignment - Part I - Replying to Appiah
Here is a list of a few readings which are (or can be construed as) responses to Appiah's views on race one more selection of pages from Appiah's book further relevant to our discussions. These are now (or soon will be) available on our course eRes page (with the exception of the Taylor and Appiah selections in our books).

• Appiah, K. Anthony. 2005. pp.155-65, 192-99 of The Ethics of Identity.
  

For Monday I am asking four groups of 4-5 students each to respond to one reading per group.

• Group 1 responds to Sundstrom
• Group 2 responds to Yancy
• Group 3 responds to the Taylor selections from Race
• Group 4 responds to the pages from Appiah's book

Groups will be determined in class on Friday on a first-volunteer-then-fiat basis. Read your selection over the weekend and post your response no later than Monday at 11am. I have already created four blog posts below (scroll down) in which each group should leave their responses as comments (email me if you do not know how to do this, but it is as easy as reading the post below and then clicking on the appropriate post title or the '# comments' link below each post and typing your comment there once logged in).

Also, please bring in two copies of a draft/working introductory paragraph for your essay where you lay out a topic, set a problem in relation to your topic, and present a clearly-articulated thesis statement in which you show how you will respond to that problem in the essay. This should be one paragraph maximum and as such should be no longer than one page (double-spaced, 12 pt. Times, standard margins, your name at the top, etc.).
