The readings in the preface provided a disturbing thought that I will keep to myself for now, but the conclusion was that 'time' will eventually solve the racial and gender oppression problems. The idea is that the new generation will eventually replace the generation currently in power, and thus move forward with change. It is also affirmed on page 30.
In attempt to combine this thought with p27-28, West mentions the problem of worthlessness and self-loathing in black America. He uses the term angst, "Under these circumstances black existential angst derives from the lived experience of ontological wounds and emotional scars inflicted by white supremacist beliefs and images permeating U.S. society and culture" (West 27).
Why dwell in the notion of fear and dread? This exactly opposite of moving forward, but if the time isn't right, then one has no choice but to dwell...
